About the march bracelet: In Greece March is usually a month of very changeable weather with many spells of sudden sunshine. As tradition goes, mothers braid the so called “Martis”, for the children so that the early spring sun wouldn’t burn their cheeks. These two-coloroud bracelets, red and white, symbolise the children’s rosy cheeks yet white complexion. They are worn until the Midnight Mass of the Greek Orthodox Easter and are then thrown in the traditional bonfires which follow.
